Coronavirus Affecting Prom And Wedding Dress Business | Newsradio 1020 KDKA - NewsRadio 1020 KDKA

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The coronavirus is having a big impact on global economy, including the wedding industry.

Most of the factories in China that make bridal gowns and prom dresses have been shut down for months.

It's enough to send bridezillas over the edge.

Imagine trying to order the dress of your dreams, only to find out it's not in stock and could now take up to 9 months to custom make?!

Most bridal and bridesmaids gowns are made in China.

But the factories that make them have been shut down due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

"Many of the factories went on Chinese New Year right as the coronavirus was hitting, then China went and said that they did not want the workers going back to the factories for fear it would spread even more," said DJ Marinelli of Exquisite Bride in Gibsonia.

Marinelli adds teenage girls may also find a shortage of pretty dresses for prom.

"Many of the prom manufactures here that sell in the United States to the retailers have informed us that they will not be cutting any more additional dresses so what they have in their warehouses here in America is all that they're going to have for the prom 2020 season."

Exquisite Bride recommends you order early to allow plenty of time.  And he warns brides should not order directly from Chinese websites.

Donate Old Prom Dresses to Princess Prom Project in Hamilton - 94.5 PST

Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:10 AM PST

If all of your old prom dresses are taking up way too much room in your closet, I've got the perfect way for you to donate them, so other local teens can make great memories while wearing them too. It's called Princess Prom Project, according to Tapinto Hamilton/Robbinsville.

Prom season is about to begin, and girls are already out shopping for their dress, shoes, etc. While that's fun for some, it may not be fun for other local girls, who find the cost of the prom to be a financial burden.

Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo (D-Hamilton) to the rescue. He has once again kicked off his "Princess Prom Project" to make sure all local girls have the chance to get the perfect dress and accessories for that very special night.

This program isn't new. It's been happening yearly since 2011 to help ease thar financial burden some local families feel, while trying to make prom a special time for their children.

You can help. DeAngelo said in the article, "Since we launched the Princess Prom Project, we've had incredible support from local families who've donated new and barely worn dresses. Our dress room is packed with so many different incredible dresses of all sizes and styles, it's really unbelievable."

Dresses aren't the only things needed. You can also donate purses, jewelry, and shoes, to help complete their prom look. Please drop off your donations to the District Office of Assemblyman Wayne P. DeAngelo, which is located in the Shoppes at Nottingham Pointe, on Nottingham Way in Hamilton Township.

Girls will get to come shop for their dresses at the same location, 4621A Nottingham Way, from 3pm to 6pm on Wednesday, March 4th, Wednesday, March 18th, Tuesday, March 24th, Wednesday, April 1st, Tuesday April 14th, Monday April 20th, Wednesday, April 29th, and Tuesday, May 12th.

Here, Henry VIII's wife, Anne Boleyn, is seen wearing a Tudor-style dress, which was common in medieval times. This style often features long, draped sleeves, as well as heavy fabrics, such as velvet. The square neckline was also made popular and would typically be adorned with layers of necklaces and jewels.
