Posted: 26 Feb 2019 12:00 AM PST ![]() While Meghan Markle's style has evolved since joining the royal family (fascinators and stockings, anyone?), we can still count on her to be every bit the trendsetter. As part of her whirlwind tour of Morocco with Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a casually cute look on Monday, February 25, and it was her edgy (by royal standards, anyway!) Ecksand earrings that stole the show. Visiting the Moroccan Royal Federation of Equestrian Sports, the mom-to-be rocked Rag & Bone maternity jeans with a striped Equipment sweater, J.Crew field jacket and Stuart Weitzman booties. The look was very mom-on-the-go-chic, and, in keeping with her style star status, she accessorized the look with a pair of earrings that appeared to magically suspend from her inner ear. While we don't doubt the royal has a bit of magic up her sleeves, her gold bar earrings were by Canadian jeweler Ecksand and gave the illusion of being a cuff but were actually studs. Made of sustainable recycled gold, the rope-like style is available in 10, 14 and 18-karat options that start around $300. While royal jewelry is typically all about blingy brooches, gem-encrusted tiaras and statement bracelets and necklaces, the former Suits actress has stayed true to her love of dainty and delicate jewelry, and the wrap-around ear candy is simply the latest iteration. A cross between a classic huggie and a more modern ear cuff, the sleek style gives the illusion of a unique piercing, while actually just wearing like a traditional stud. The Ecksand website says the handcrafted design is "created to fit all types of ears," and it serves as a subtler and more laid-back alternative to the oversize hoops trend of the moment. Sparkle: the rules of giving jewellery this Christmas - The Guardian Posted: 11 Dec 2018 12:00 AM PST Money is no object (even when it is)Look, I'm not pretending diamond earrings wouldn't be nice. But the days when jewellery was just hard currency in sparkly form are over. Costume jewellery isn't about fake jewels any more, it is desirable in its own right. Most women who wear jewellery buy it for themselves, change it frequently and love getting it for gifts. You can get fun jewellery on the high street for a tenner and longer-term jewellery-box treasures for well under £100. So a pair of earrings or a necklace isn't just a landmark birthday present any more – it might be the answer for your aunt or your office secret Santa or your kid's year-three teacher. Try Zara: I love these black velvet teardrops dangling from beaten-gold domes studded with black rhinestones, for £12.99. ![]() The snowman earring is the new mismatched earring If you are buying an earring as a fashion gift, listen up. The shape to look for now is the snowman: a large oval below a smaller circle. The Zara ones I mentioned above, for instance. The shapes can be smooth and symmetrical, like the tortoiseshell-speckled clear beaded double drops at Cos for £19. Or they can be dented and grooved in the modern organic style, like the beaded clusters hanging from burnished brass studs that are £17.99 at Mango. If those seem a bit outre, another on-trend option is anything seaside-themed. Blooming Dreamer makes jewellery from real shells; I am a bit obsessed with their Sea of Love pendant, a gold-edged scallop shell on a fine gold chain, for £60. There are very cute gold seashell studs for £13 at & Other Stories. A gold medallion on a pendant is another chic option. The ultimate are by Alighieri, this year's name to drop in the jewellery world, and cost about £200. ![]() Do a little sleuthing You don't have to root around in her underwear drawer, you just have to look at her. Does she wear big earrings? Lots of bracelets? A different necklace every day? This will give you a steer. If you're already in the shops reading this in a panic and can't remember if she has pierced ears, text her best friend; if she doesn't get back to you, then Monica Vinader's sustainable, ethically sourced jewellery, as worn by Emma Watson and the Duchess of Cambridge, is a failsafe choice. An 18-carat gold-plated adjustable-sized chain link bracelet with a moonstone is £115. A teeny box from a big name makes a super fancy special presentIf what she would really love is a Valentino dress or a Saint Laurent blazer or a Gucci sweater, but your budget doesn't stretch to four figures, fashion jewellery makes a brilliant gift. Gucci's faux-pearl bee-stud earrings, £270 from Net-a-Porter, are a modern classic. Don't overthink the choice; recognisable is good. Valentino's logo hoops are £340 at matchesfashion.com and Balenciaga's silk-ribbon-wrapped pair is £325. The outsize YSL initial earrings as seen on the catwalk are sold out everywhere, but the mini brass tassel version can be found on Farfetch for £260. Smartest of all, Vestiaire Collective is a treasure trove of pre-owned, certified-real designer jewellery: a pair of Chloe-branded bow-shaped studs for £63.17, for instance. Avoid rings if there is any potential for conflictI hope this is blindingly obvious but, just in case, bear in mind that if there is the slightest scope for disappointment or confusion about what the giving of a ring may or may not signify, do everyone a favour and stick to earrings. Rings are tricky to give anyway, because a ring that doesn't fit is as useful as a pair of shoes that doesn't fit, and most of us don't even know our own ring sizes, let alone anyone else's. If you have access to a ring that fits, you can use dental floss to measure the inside circumference, then compare it to an online ring sizer to get the size (a letter) that you need. If you have the size, a signet ring is the newer, cooler take on the cocktail ring. Astley Clarke's rose-gold plated signet ring with lace agate is an absolute corker for £110. ![]() Beware the strong and stable necklace2018 was the year Theresa May killed the statement necklace. The PM's dogged commitment to her outsize silver Amanda Wakeley chain, from which she deviates only as far as similarly chunky strong-and-stable strings of faux pearls or Conservative-blue giant beads, has aligned what was once a power-dressing staple with a political year to forget. However, long-term thinkers might like to note that, possibly thanks to the May association, the chunky chain is the only jewellery item not sold out from the Moschino x H&M collection. At £49.99 for full-fat gold-plated bling, it could turn out to be a sound fashion investment. Hoops work at any ageSome jewellery has an age bracket. Friendship bracelets are great for teenagers; brooches tend to skew post-50. Hoops work for everyone. Kate Spade's large faux-pearl hoops are currently reduced from £60 to £39. Marks & Spencer has a cute stocking-filler pearl-studded mini hoop for £7.50. Christmas decorations? Baubles for the tree are all very well. But baubles for your nearest and dearest – or for you – are best of all. Footballers who wear diamond studs and earrings, including Pogba, Ronaldo and Neymar - The Sun Posted: 23 Nov 2018 12:00 AM PST DIAMONDS are now a man's best friend, if you see what these footballers love wearing. Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Paul Pogba are all dedicated followers of fashion, dressing to the nines to look their best. And aside from wearing the most expensive designer clothes their incredible salaries can afford, they're splashing the cash on bling that even Sean "Diddy" Combs would envy. In today's world, footballers aren't afraid to wear jewellery - decorating their ear lobes with diamond studs and pricey earrings. It would be enough to make Roy Keane mad! Starting off with the most fashion conscious football of them all... Hector Bellerin...The Arsenal man is known to push boundaries when it comes to his fashion choices, and he's not afraid to experiment. When he's not on duty with the Gunners marauding down the right wing, he's posing in fancy photoshots wearing his favourite gold cross dangling from his left ear. Pat Butcher would be jealous of those bad boys! Jerome BoatengThe Bayern Munich and Germany defender is one of football's most fashionable men. In fact, there's talk of the giant centre half launching his own fashion magazine and he's got Jay Z helping him cultivate his image with his Roc Nation Sports group. TRENDSETTER Alex Iwobi fashion: Arsenal's trendy forward loves wearing Gucci, but you can get his look on the high streetBoateng goes with diamond studs, that he likes to match with a pair of intellectual-looking glasses. Roberto FirminoNow here's a man who is definitely not afraid to explore fashion's deepest boundaries. After all, he once wore a £670 gold metal tie made by Hex and loves to have his teeth whitened. And the Liverpool forward isn't afraid to show of his studs - a sparkly diamond set - when he's enjoying time away from the game. Cristiano RonaldoThe ultimate football icon, who has fashion labels/endorsements, coming out his ears... it's amazing that a jeweler hasn't approached him to front their diamond earring campaign. Ron loves his bling, and with an estimated wealth of around £350m he could buy any diamond he wanted. But Ronaldo seems to sport the same pair wherever he goes - again, a small, discrete diamond stud - leaving his missus Georgina Rodriguez to rule the roost in the earring front. NeymarThe pretender to Ronaldo's throne, he's another who loves an endorsement when it comes to fashion. He lent his image to designers Replay Jeans and wore some of their clobber for an ad campaign during his time at Barcelona. Neymar loves wearing hooped earrings, diamond of course, and has been known to wear three at the same time on one ear. Paul PogbaBack in October, when Manchester United were in crisis and Pogba and boss Jose Mourinho's relationship seemed at its most strained, the French star lost his diamond earring. It reportedly happened at training, and the stud in question was said to be worth an incredible £10k. For giggles, he swapped it out for an emoji earring that he modeled on social media. He's also been known to wear his initials on his ears too. Daniel SturridgeLiverpool's supersub striker is clearly a jewellery connoisseur. The Reds frontman has been seen out and about wearing 18ct white gold plated diamond crystal studs. He often matches his earrings with a diamond nose stud and once worse some gold grills for his teeth. And the best of the rest...England wonderkid Jadon Sancho has quickly learned that the world's best wear bling. So, it wasn't a surprise to see the winger don a diamond pair for his first ever Three Lions press conference. Man City's uncompromising centre half Nicolas Otamendi may be a brute on the pitch, but he's definitely not afraid to embrace his feminine side... although we wouldn't say that to his face. Across town Man United's former winger Nani was one of the first foreign stars to bring bling to the Premier League. Lucky for him, Keane left Old Trafford two years before his arrival in 2007. While Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette risk their lobes by wearing their earrings in training. Paul Pogba and Lionel Messi entertained by Salt Bae during international break |
